Masterworks for Lever Harp
From the Publisher Note from the Arranger
After many years of teaching, I have noticed a demand for beautiful classical music arrangements among lever harp students. While many classical pieces are readily available for pedal harp, they often present challenges for the lever harp. This collection, designed for the strengths and constraints of the lever harp, consists of pieces ranging from moderate to difficult. Many include challenging lever changes, but I have made every effort to ensure that they are achievable. Lever changes are highlighted in color, and suggested fingerings provide aid to execution. I have strived to remain faithful to the original compositions, however, in certain instances, I have adapted voicing, omitted notes, or adjusted sections to particularly suit the lever harp. Dynamics and tempo markings are edited with reference to the originals.
The arrangements in this collection were prepared on a 36-string lever harp, tuned to E flat. With two exceptions, all pieces are playable on 34- or 32-string harps, with the lowest string 6th octave E. Chopin's "Fantaisie Impromptu" requires a 6th octave D; Bach's "Prelude in C" requires a 6th octave C, but an alternate octave higher version is included. The arrangements can be played on pedal harps, however pedal markings are not included to avoid confusion.
My hope is that you will enjoy not only the specific arrangements, but notes on composers and compositions that help to identify and elucidate the periods and genres. Have fun and make beautiful music!
